Gun shows should be legally required to implement standard safeguards

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

I have been following the debate about gun control in The Transcript.

David Orr noted “stoking paranoia is a big business” and that people were “buying guns by the forklift.”

Another reader remembered her grandmother telling her, “Just because you have a right to put peas up your nose doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.”

A local clerk told me, “Obama is the best gun salesman.”

The absurd idea that the police and the military are going to knock down our doors and confiscate our guns is being used by the National Rifle Association to spread paranoia and by the gun companies to sell guns.

My father, my brothers, my son and I all served in the military. We did not serve so that any idiot can carry around a bazooka. Gun shows should be subject to the same registration requirements that stores selling guns do.
