Twenty-six Angels

NORMAN — Today is the day grown men cry

Twenty-six angels are learning to fly

Twenty so young their eyes so bright

Six angels teaching as they follow God’s light

I was told grown men never cry

I now believe this was a lie

Our most valued possession was taken today

Little hearts stopped beating, I ask why as I pray

Stripped and beaten can’t equal my pain

Answers not there as I search in vain

Evil only matched when he was nailed to the cross

Let us travel together on this road of great loss

Innocence before now gone from our view

A small child had asked when Santa was due

Another asked do reindeer really fly

Today was the day grown men cry

These words merely touch the way we feel

Lifelong heart break we shall never heal

Those soft tender souls now learning to fly

Seated in their classroom, in heaven’s blue sky

Parents we love you and share your pain

America’s your family, our tears fall like rain

Let the world embrace you and show you we care

Our hearts are broken in your time of despair

Today was the day grown men cry

Twenty-six angels are learning to fly

Twenty so young their eyes so bright

Six angels teaching as they follow God’s light

Judge not a man with a tear on his cheek

God has answers for the answers we seek

Today was the day grown men cry

As twenty-six angels are learning to fly

  • Republican Party has unmitigated gall

Editor, The Transcript: When it comes to unmitigated gall, the Republican Party has no equal. Take the current Benghazi hearings, for example. This is nothing but a political charade aimed at the 2014 election and Hillary Clinton’s ...

  • John Tullius’ cartoon is wrong about education

Editor, The Transcript: John Tullius’ last Saturday cartoon has jumped up and stepped right on my toes, along with, I suspect, the toes of teachers and school personnel all over town: “Growing up — we learned good morals, values and ...

  • What hope for our humanity’s predicament?

Editor, The Transcript: Well, what is it, this “predicament” of ours, our humanity’s? What’s behind or underneath this predicament, this predication, this saying before or is it a “before saying?” Ah, that might be getting closer to what ...

  • Women can’t be at the front in Catholic church

Editor, The Transcript: Kathryn Jean Lopez’s editorial, “Women to the front,” made me scratch my head. Since it was about the Catholic Church, she must know that Catholic women can’t be at the front. They cannot be priests, bishops or ...
