Ring a bell this Christmas

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

The Salvation Army’s red kettles remind us it is the Christmas season, a season when the spirit of giving and concern for others seems to possess us all.

There are two ways to heed that spirit: Drop bills and coins in the red kettles every time you hear the joyful ringing of the bells by a caring volunteer and call the Salvation Army to volunteer for bell ringing.

Be assured your money and volunteer time will be well used by the Salvation Army to bring a touch of joy and peace to many lives that have been beset by misfortune.

The number of applications for Christmas aid has already overwhelmed the Army’s ability to provide, and that is where you and I come in, to help where the need is great.

Many, including the wives and children of soldiers who are away, face a Christmas without the necessities. It is the great people of Cleveland County who always come through to share what they have with those in need.

The Salvation Army will take those gifts and bring happiness and hope to those who have neither.

It isn’t just the clothes, toys and food but “knowing” that someone cares.

The Salvation Army needs volunteers to ring the bells at the kettles.

Encourage your family members to ring with you or organize a group, such as your Sunday school class, sports team or office staff. It really is great fun and brings such a satisfaction just knowing you are helping.

The kettles are out early this year, now through Christmas Eve daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. excluding Sundays. Choose a location and call 579-5442 to reserve your time and place to ring. Call early for the best locations.

Remember: Need has no season.
