NORMAN — The Alcott Middle School Eighth-Grade Mixed Choir and the Norman North High School Chorale shared the stage last month when the choirs performed at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Convention in Tulsa. The choirs were selected through a statewide audition process.
Jeanne Lucas, choir director at Alcott, made her first OMEA appearance. She selected a program consisting of music from the 19th century to the present in styles including polyphonic music, spirituals, Island music and traditional literature. Barbara Billingsley was the accompanist.
The Norman North Chorale was led by Tony Gonzalez, choir director since Norman North opened in 1997. The program is titled “Songs we love to sing, and I love to conduct.”
The musical span ranges from Joseph Haydn to Eric Whitacre and other contemporary composers. The concert concluded with a Philippine song of courtship. Susan Babcock was the accompanist.
