Tax-Aide offers free prep, e-filing for area residents

NORMAN — The Norman American Association of Retired Persons Tax-Aide group provides free tax preparation and free e-filing for federal and state income tax for residents of Norman and the surrounding area.

Last year, the group’s 31 volunteers prepared 808 federal returns at its Norman Public Library and Norman Senior Citizen Center sites. The Norman Public Library site, 225 N. Webster Ave., serves all comers with returns of up to moderate complexity on a first-come first-serve basis. The Norman Senior Citizens Center site, 329 S. Peters Ave., serves citizens age 50 or older by appointment only. Call the Center at 329-4200 for an appointment.

The library site operates from 5 to 9 p.m. on Mondays from Feb. 4 through April 8. The Senior Center site operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 5 through April 11.

AARP Tax-Aide has no dollar limit on returns it can prepare, but is not allowed to do complex returns. Some restrictions are new this year. Returns cannot be prepared that involve income from rental real estate, ministerial income, mortgage certificate credits, business income that does not qualify for use on a CEZ form, farm income and some other income or credit items. Tax-Aide is sponsored by the AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service.
