Chili feast for good cause

Norman police, firefighters to host annual fundraiser

NORMAN — Norman Police and Fire departments are hosting a chili supper Thursday to benefit the Cleveland County Christmas Store. The supper will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Norman High School commons area.

Ingredients for the chili supper have been donated, so all proceeds will benefit the Cleveland County Christmas Store. According to a NPD press release, police and fire departments donated more than $6,500 last year and are hoping to raise more money this year.

The Christmas Store is a community project involving hundreds of people who donate their time and resources to help low-income families provide better Christmases for their families, according to the Christmas Store of Cleveland County website, christmas-store.org.

The website states that the store is set up with donated time, money and merchandise where low-income families can shop for food, toys, clothing and other gifts.

“They can choose what their family wants and needs, not what someone else thinks they should have,” the website states.

Families can then buy gifts with a fixed quota determined by family size. Individuals pay for gifts by donating their time setting up the Christmas Store..

“There are many people who would not have had the opportunity to exchange gifts with their loved ones without the Christmas Store,” the NPD press release states.

Tickets for the chili supper are $5 and can be purchased in advance at the Norman Police or Fire departments, the University of Oklahoma Police Department and Norman Public Schools Campus Police or at the door, for no additional cost.
