Robert Castleberry declares for Ward 3

NORMAN — Ward 3 City Councilman Robert Castleberry announced Friday that he will seek re-election.

“I have been overwhelmed by the amount of emotional and financial support I have received over the past couple of months,” Castleberry said. ”There are many important financial issues that face Norman in the next couple of years.My background as a CPA and local business owner gives me a unique prospective on those issues.  We have alot more to accomplish as a city council, and I want to be part of the positive things that are on the horizon.” 

Ward 3 generally encompasses the area of west Norman, including west of 24th Avenue West from the southern City Limits to Robinson Street, west on Robinson Street to 36th Avenue N.W. then north to Rock Creek Road, west on Rock Creek Road to 48th Avenue N.W. and north to Indian Hills Road.

Castleberry and Associates was named to the Best CPA Firm list and Robert Castleberry was named to the best CPA list in Norman by the Norman Transcript’s Reader’s Choice Awards in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. 

In 2011, Castleberry was named one of the top wealth managers in Oklahoma.

Castleberry has previously served as a board member for the American Red Cross, Friends of the Library, Norman Public Schools Foundation, and Independent Living Services for Youth. 

He is a member of Journey Church, Norman Chamber of Commerce, and a graduate of the Leadership Norman Class of 1996.  He also volunteers his time as a coach for various youth sports teams.

Castleberry was appointed to the city council by a nomination process when Council member Hal Ezzell stepped down. Castleberry previously served as the Chairman of the TIF Citizens Oversight Committee and currently serves on the Council Finance and Oversight Committees.

Castleberry’s principal concerns are the city’s finances, water supply and quality, storm water, and creating a strong business environment.  He has been concentrating his expertise on the budget issues facing the City and is considered a budget hawk and strong fiscal conservative.

He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from OU. He is the married to Robyn Castleberry and has two boys ages 12 and 10.

 Candidates will file for mayor and odd-numbered city council positions Jan. 14 to Jan. 16.
