Chance for snow on horizon

NORMAN — The Norman area has a slight chance of snow Sunday night, with the emphasis on slight.

Oklahoma City has a 20 percent chance forecast by Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

For Norman, there is a 20 percent chance of rain, possibly mixed with snow, by late Sunday night.

For Satday, Cleveland County can expect at high of about 60 with an overnight low of 40 carrying through to be Sunday’s high as well. Expect a severe dip Sunday night to a cold as 20 degrees. Monday should see clearing and a high of 38. Overnight low temperatures the rest of the week are expected to remain below freezing.

When asked about Tulsa’s first snow chances of the season, National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Sellers sounded skeptical.

“It’s not zero,” Sellers said. “But it’s pretty close.”

Tulsa has less than a 20 percent chance of snow after 9 p.m. Sunday, which would be the first snowfall of the season, Sellers said.

As the calendar pushes closer and closer to winter, the Central and Western Oklahoma Region of the American Red Cross urges residents to take steps now to stay safer when severe winter weather threatens.

“By preparing together for winter storms, we can make our families safer and our communities stronger,” Ken Garcia, Regional Communications Director said. “We can help you and your family create a disaster preparedness plan now, before our community is threatened by dangerously low temperatures, snow, ice and strong winds.”
