Norman lawyers to serve on Oklahoma Bar Association’s Board of Governors

NORMAN — Norman attorneys Sandee Coogan and Richard Stevens have been elected to serve on the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Board of Governors. Election results were announced at the OBA’s 108th Annual Meeting Friday in Oklahoma City.

Coogan will represent Judicial District Five, and Stevens will serve as a member-at-large. Judicial District Five contains Carter, Cleveland, Garvin, Grady, Jefferson, Love, McClain, Murray and Stephens counties.

Coogan is a sole practitioner in Norman, focusing primarily on family law. She received her B.S. in education and her M.Ed. in educational psychology from the University of Oklahoma. She received her J.D. from the OU College of Law and is admitted to practice law in Oklahoma and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. She currently serves on the Oklahoma Bar Journal Board of Editors as well as the OBA Awards Committee.

She is a member of the OBA Family Law Section and an Oklahoma Bar Foundation Sustaining Fellow. She is a past president of the Cleveland County Bar Association and remains active. She also served in other various county bar capacities as an executive board member since 1997.

Stevens has been an assistant district attorney in Norman since 1986. He received his B.A. in 1978 and his J.D. in 1982 from the University of Oklahoma. He is a member of the OBA Criminal Law Section, Rules of Professional Conduct Committee and Oklahoma District Attorneys Association. He has been active with both the OBA and the Cleveland County Disaster Response and Relief Committees, in addition to the OBA Lawyers for America’s Heroes program. An active member of the Cleveland County Bar Association, he previously served on its executive committee.

He has served as the district attorney’s liaison to the Cleveland County Community Sentencing Council and serves on the Cleveland County Board of Law Library Trustees.
