Generous donors among blessings being counted

NORMAN — I don’t know about you, but I need to walk to New York and back to burn off all the calories I consumed this weekend. I probably should have gone out on Black Friday just to get some exercise fighting off the crowds.

This week I am reflecting on all the things I am thankful for.

I am thankful for my parents. It’s because of them that I am the person I am now. They instilled in me a spirit of giving, community and acceptance; not only with words, but with actions.

I am thankful for my wife. She is the strongest, most caring person I’ve ever known. I can’t believe she puts up with me.

I am thankful for my community. Norman is such a special place to live and work. I’m always amazed by the talent and generosity of the people I’ve come to know through my time at the United Way.

I can tell you that it takes a small army of volunteers to make the work of the United Way possible, and there are so many people that are eager and excited to step up. Nothing would happen without them.

I’m also thankful for the thousands of donors who make a difference by giving to United Way of Norman.

You ensure that children can start school with the supplies they need. You help hungry families find food when they have nowhere else to turn.

You help low-income individuals obtain dental and medical care that keeps them out of the emergency room.

At the United Way, we know that when you reach out a hand to one person, you make life better for all of us.

So thank you Norman, for all you’ve done during the past year!
