89er Day Parade theme announced

NORMAN — Organizers announced this week that registration is open for the 2013 89er Day Parade, scheduled for April 20.

The parade, commemorating the day in 1889 that Oklahoma was opened for settlement, will begin 10 a.m. on Main Street and Pickard Avenue, ending at Main Street and Crawford Avenue.

This year’s theme is “Workin’ Up a Storm.” Participants are encouraged to design their entries to reflect what the theme means to them.

“Norman’s 89er Day Parade is a great opportunity to bring friends, families and businesses together in a festive community event that is fun for people of all ages,” said Charles Hollingsworth, chair for the parade. “The more festive your float or entry, the more attention you’ll receive.”

There are 10 divisions upon which entries will be judged: Floats, Round-Up Club, Music and Dance Groups, Auto, Trucks, Other Vehicles, Miscellaneous Children, Miscellaneous Adult, Equestrian and Other Animal.
