County commissioners award building assessment job to AIP

NORMAN — Cleveland County Commissioners awarded a professional services bid for contract to AIP of Norman. The architectural firm also planned the F. DeWayne Beggs Detention Center.

AIP will assess the current and future building maintenance needs for multiple county buildings to allow commissioners to make future budget plans.

Board of County Commissioners Chair Rod Cleveland has said he is particularly interested to be able to plan for the replacement of big-ticket items like roof replacements.

Also competing for the job was the McKinney Partnership.

“I have full confidence in both these architectural firms,” District 2 Commissioner Darry Stacy said.

AIP was selected based on cost estimates.

“Because it’s a professional services contract, it’s not subject to bidding,” Assistant District Attorney Jim Robertson said.

But county commissioners had looked at proposals from both local firms.

A bid for towing services was rescinded and will be rebid. Robertson said after looking over the contracts, he believed they need to be modified. The towing services are provided as needed for impounds for the Cleveland County sheriff.

Undersheriff Rhett Burnett said 381 prisoners currently are in the county jail. Of those, 102 are Department of Corrections prisoners, with 90 having already received judgment and sentencing.

“Well done for the District Attorney’s Office,” Burnett said.

The DA’s office completes the paperwork for judgment and sentencing, which allows the county to either transport prisoners to DOC custody or to collect money for their care from the state while they remain in county jail.

Burnett also thanked District 3 road crews for help with a recent fatality wreck.

“Your people came out and blocked roads, and it was of tremendous assistance,” Burnett said.

· Cleveland County Health Department: Keri McCarty $50, Sherry Combs $50

· Fair Board: Department of Central Services $250

· Sheriff’s Office: CDW Government Inc. $700, Sooner Copy Machines $1,000

Commissioners also approved purchase orders for payment of personal services, travel, maintenance and operation, and capital outlay:
