NORMAN — Norman firefighters responded to a structure fire around 2 p.m. Tuesday involving a detached garage.
Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said the fire spread to the house at 2308 Memphis Drive. It singed part of the roof and some of the windows on the home near the garage.
Bailey said two occupants were home at the time, but no one was injured. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes from the time the call was toned out, he said.
Fire investigators have not yet ruled the cause of the fire. When the call went out, Bailey said it may have possibly been caused by a generator in the garage.
Thirteen firefighters and two fire investigators responded to the call as well as an entire rookie class. The rookies got some hands-on experience overhauling and cleaning up, Bailey said.
There hasn’t been any preliminary estimates on the cost of damages to the structure, but Bailey said the garage is a total loss.
