Miss Okla. named second runner-up

NORMAN — Alicia Clifton is junior at OU

Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton was named second runner-up at the Miss America pageant Saturday night in Las Vegas. Clifton, 21, of Oklahoma City, is a junior at OU majoring in broadcast journalism. Her platform is TAP Into Lifelong Volunteerism.

Earlier in the week, Clifton earned top honors for her tap dance performance to “Money Can’t Buy Me Love.” The performance garnered her a $2,000 Amway scholarship.

Clifton’s dancing has earned her many titles and awards over the years. She has two dance-related Guinness World Records and is a two-time silver medalist and a gold medalist for the USA at the World Dance Championships.

She became involved in the Miss Oklahoma Teen Pageant system at the age of 13. She had the title of Miss Tulsa Outstanding Teen and was crowned Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen in 2008.

Clifton had hoped to become the third Miss Oklahoma to win the Miss America title since 2006. Instead, Miss New York Mallory Hagan won the title Saturday night. Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers was first runner-up.
