Dog park at Griffin Community Park expands

NORMAN — Norman city crews are wrapping up the final improvements on an expansion of the Dog Park at Griffin Community Park.

The dog park is accessible from the entry drive off 12th Avenue Northeast, approximately one half mile north of Robinson Street. The expansion will nearly double the size of the existing park, adding approximately three-quarters of an acre of additional space. 

Improvements include the installation of six-foot chain link fencing, pedestrian and equipment gates, two benches and a frost-free water hydrant. The new area will be opened to the general public on Wednesday.

The original dog park was constructed in 2004 by a group of volunteers who coordinated donated materials, funding and labor for the project. 

Dogs visiting the park are required to be licensed and vaccinated.
