Filing statistics for 2012

400 more felonies listed than in 2011

NORMAN — As 2012 came to a close, the Cleveland County Courthouse saw end-of-the-year statistics rise in comparison with numbers from 2011.

Cleveland County Court Clerk Rhonda Hall reported the number of filings from 2012, including:

· Marriage licenses: 2,010

· Divorces: 1,462

· Misdemeanors: 3,453

· Felonies: 2,340

· Civil lawsuits: 6,288

“It looks like we filed close to 400 more felonies than the year before,” District Attorney Greg Mashburn said. “There’s about 50 less misdemeanors, so those are down a little bit.”

Hall reported the following filings for 2011:

· Marriage licenses: 1,803

· Divorces: 1,517

· Misdemeanors: 3,507

· Felonies: 1,972

· Civil lawsuits: 6,103

“We continue to see drugs as a big problem. Meth is on the rise again and prescription drugs continue to be a problem,” Mashburn said.

The DA said that statistics have are ups and downs over the years and as the population continues to rise in Cleveland County, the city will see more of an increase in these statistics.

Mashburn also said the increase in filings could be credited to law enforcement.

“It means they’re catching more of the criminals. That’s a good thing with our growing population,” he said.
