Dry conditions expected in Norman for the rest of the week

NORMAN — The National Weather Service in Norman is predicting the rest of the week to be dry in the area.

On Monday night, meteorologist John Pike said so far the area has received about 1.26 inches of rain. Pike said throughout the rest of Monday night, they were expecting the rain to start changing into a light snow and stop around 6 a.m. today.

“As far as accumulations here, we’re looking at maybe up to an inch of snow,” he said. “(Today) will be dry. We’re expecting a high of about 39 degrees and then the next few days gradually warm up into the 40s.”

Pike said while the days may warm up, the mornings will still be cold and are expected to be well into the 20s.

As of Monday night, no weather-related closings were listed for Tuesday from the city of Norman, Cleveland County the University of Oklahoma or local schools, churches or businesses.

The largest amounts of snowfall in Oklahoma were recorded in the northwest part of the state, with Woodward receiving the most at 15 inches. Woodward also has had several reports of collapsing structures due to the heavy amounts of snow.

The Associated Press reported Monday evening that three buildings collapsed in Woodward. One roof collapse resulted in a fatality. The other two collapses included a gas station and the local Walmart’s garden center.

Other areas reporting large amounts of snow included Shattuck, 11 inches; Alva, 9 inches; Arnett, 8 inches; Watonga and Turpin, 6 inches; and Guymon, 4.9 inches.
