NORMAN — The Oklahoma Republican Party congratulated T.W. Shannon and Mike Jackson on their election as Speaker of the House and Speaker Pro Tempore, respectively. Shannon and Jackson have been selected by their Republican House colleagues to lead the body for the 2013 session.
“While Republicans nationally are scratching their heads over how to reach both the African American and youth vote in this country, Oklahoma is again leading the way with the election of TW Shannon as the only black Republican Speaker in the country and Mike Jackson as one of the youngest to serve as Pro Tempore,” OKGOP Chair Matt Pinnell said.
Shannon, 34, will take office as one of the nation’s youngest Speakers of the House and is an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation.
“Both of these individuals will be strong conservative leaders in Oklahoma for years to come,” Pinnell said. “We look forward to working with Speaker-elect Shannon and Pro Tempore-elect Jackson to continue the momentum in our state ...”
