NORMAN — Jenkins repair
The Norman Street Division crews closed Jenkins Avenue between Lindsey Street and Brooks Street this week to perform concrete panel replacement and drainage repairs. Full access to the stadium area will be maintained from Lindsey Street during the construction. Simultaneous to the concrete repairs, asphalt deep patching will occur between Brooks Street and Boyd Street on Jenkins Avenue. This work will be performed under traffic with flagmen on sight to direct traffic around the work zone. The recommended detour route is Lindsey Street, Elm Avenue and Boyd Street. I-35 bridge
over Canadian
As part of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s project to widen the I-35 bridge over the Canadian River, ODOT’s contractor closed the southbound outside lane and the northbound outside lane. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in both directions until construction is complete. Projected completion is September. The construction contract allows the contractor to earn early completion incentive pay at $3,000 a day with a maximum of 100 days, for early completion date in June. Access will continue to be provided for I-35 to Highway 9 East and Highway 9 West. Direct questions to John Clink, Capital Projects Manager, at 366-5424.
Fix a Leak Week
In recognition of the fifth annual Fix a Leak Week, the Norman Water Treatment Division encourages Norman residents to check winter water bills for indications of leaks in home plumbing and to fix any leaks they find.
Some easy tips for things that can be done to conserve water and save money on your monthly water bill include:
· Check toilets for silent leaks by putting a few drops of food coloring in the tank at the back and, if after 10 minutes, color shows up in the bowl before flushing, it may be time to make an easy repair and replace the flapper.
· Check outdoor hoses for damage from winter frost and tighten connections at the water source.
· Inspect in-ground sprinkler systems, sprinkler heads and pipes, for signs of leakage.
· Check additional plumbing and outdoor fixtures for leaks. They may just need a quick twist or pipe tape.
It is estimated that one in every ten homes has a leak that is wasting ninety gallons or more of water a day. With more than 30,000 homes in Norman connected to the water system, that means over 270,000 of water is being wasted every single day.
