NORMAN — Norman Round Up Club’s annual open rodeo will be April 29-30 at the club’s facilities in east Norman. Events will begin at 8 p.m. and run until roughly 11 p.m.
Sharon Chain, secretary of the NRUC, said the rodeo is expecting a large number of cowboys and cowgirls at the event. She said they’ll mostly come from Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas.
“We’re expecting 80 to 100 each night, if not more,” Chain said.
In addition to the regular slate of rodeo events, there will also be junior bull riding and a specialty act.
Chain said an Oklahoma City firefighter, Corey Britt, and his two sons will provide the specialty act both nights, about halfway through the evening’s events. Along with fighting fires, she said Britt is a bullfighter.
“We’re very excited to have him, and we think the crowd is really going to like what he and his sons do,” Chain said, adding that Britt’s sons are both between the ages of 7 and 9. “And we’re grateful because he’s donating his time and his equipment to do this for us.”
Chain said people still can sign up to compete at the rodeo by calling the livestock supplier at (580) 927-3007.
“If they’re riding rough stock, they have to call by Monday (April 25) to get those reserved,” she said.
The Norman Round Up Club will host a youth rodeo series throughout the summer, Chain said. The club also will host a roping night and ranch sorting competition in the near future.
Information about future events at the NRUC is available on the club’s website, www.nruc.org.
The freshly painted Norman Round Up Club is on 60th Avenue Northeast, about a half-mile north of Alameda Drive, Chain said.
“It’s hard to miss us,” she said.
