NORMAN — A blaze at a large northwest Norman home that took firefighters about nine hours to extinugish over the weekend caused about $300,000 in damage to the residence, a fire official said Monday.
Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said the cause of the fire at 3602 Timberidge Drive is still under investigation, although an official said Saturday that it didn’t appear to be suspicious in nature.
The large home is located in an upscale neighborhood just east of the Tecumseh Road and 48th Avenue NW intersection. The fire was reported 11:09 p.m. Friday and took firefighters until 8 a.m. Saturday to fully knock down.
All seven of Norman’s fire stations had units at the scene at one point, with a unit from Moore and three paramedic crews on hand, as well.
Bailey said the 4,500-square-foot home wasn’t a total loss, despite the $300,000 in damages to the southern part of the sprawling home.
“It was not a complete loss,” he said. “Three bedrooms on the north of the end of the house didn’t burn, although I’m not sure of smoke damage to those areas.”
No injuries were reported following the fire, officials said, although one dog was treated at the scene and taken to local emergency vet clinic.
“We think they had some cats, too, but I’m not sure about their conditions,” Bailey said.
According to records available at the Cleveland County Assessor’s office, the house was built in 1979 and sold to its current owner — a Dallas-based living trust — in 2006 for $590,000.
