NORMAN — A large house fire reported late Friday night in northwest Norman took firefighters about nine hours to extinguish, Assistant Fire Chief Grant Deason said on Saturday.
Deason said all of the occupants escaped the blaze and no injuries were reported.
Called in at 11:09 p.m. on Friday, Deason said Norman fire crews didn’t leave the scene until Saturday at about 8 a.m.
“It was a big house,” Deason said of the residence, which is just east of the Tecumseh Road and 48th Avenue NW intersection.
Deason said the cause of the fire at 3602 Timberidge Drive is still under investigation, although he said it didn’t appear suspicious. He also didn’t comment on the estimated value of the house or what the financial loss likely would be for the homeowners.
Units from all seven Norman fire stations, a unit from Moore and three EMSStat crews — who were there as much for the firefighters as they were the home’s occupants — worked the scene at the blaze’s peak.
Because of the fire’s heat and intensity, crews were rotated as they fought the blaze, with paramedics tending to them as needed.
Firefighters rescued a dog, which was given oxygen by paramedics and taken by a friend of the homeowners to an emergency vet clinic.
