NORMAN — Renovations on the Cleveland County Fairgrounds parking lot are running on schedule, according to District 1 County Commissioner Rod Cleveland.
“We’re coming along pretty good. We’re on schedule still,” Cleveland said.
County and contracted crews ran into some trouble when they hit utilities in the area while doing cuts into the earth and drainage work.
“We’ve hit some electric lines and water lines that weren’t deep enough,” Cleveland said. “They are private lines. We knew they were there. We just didn’t know how deep they were.”
Considering the length of time that has passed since work was done on the parking lot, hitting a few snags was not unexpected he said.
“Everything else is running great. We’re working on completion about the 5th or 20th of May,” Cleveland said. “We have a contractor that’s doing some specific drainage for us, the concrete work.”
That contractor has experienced some minor delays that pushed the project back, but nothing significant. Cleveland expects to be finished soon.
“We’ve already laid some concrete. We’ll start laying some asphalt — you’ll start seeing some blacktop out there probably next week,” he said.
