Nelson, Reynolds run for co. treasurer

NORMAN — Democrat Mona Nelson, 45, will face Republican Jim Reynolds, 49, for Cleveland County treasurer.

Nelson, a Norman resident, has worked in the treasurer’s office for more than 25 years, serving the last eight as first deputy.

Reynolds, from Oklahoma City, has served as state senator since 2000.

Nelson said if she is elected, she will need no on-the-job training. She holds the most advanced certification the state offers for county treasurers.

“I fully understand all the details and actions demanded by this office and am able to continue providing the high standard of professional service the people of Cleveland County have come to expect and deserve to have,” she said.

“The office of the Cleveland County Treasurer has been a model of transparency and fiscal responsibility for the past 25 years,” Nelson said. “That tradition will continue under my leadership and tenure as your county treasurer.”

Reynolds holds a Bachelor of Arts in management and human resources from Southern Nazarene University. He is vice chairman of the Public Safety and Judiciary Sub-committee of Appropriations and serves on the Senate Finance committee, Education committee and is chairman of the Veterans and Military affairs committee.

“I believe we need conservative leaders at all levels of government and now more than ever,” Reynolds said. “I have been a conservative voice in the Oklahoma State Senate and look forward to applying conservative policies in the Cleveland County Treasurer’s Office.”

“As a senator, I have been a strong advocate for transparent government and fiscal discipline,” he said. “As treasurer of Cleveland County, I will continue to do the same.”
