Candidate filing to begin in county

NORMAN — Spring is the season of city election campaigning, and elected positons are open in three Cleveland County municipalities. Candidate filing will start Monday and run through Wednesday for Moore, Lexington and Slaughterville.

Cleveland County Election Board Secretary Jim Williams said the filing period for Moore and Lexington council members and Slaughterville trustees will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cleveland County Election Board Office, 641 E. Robinson St. in Norman.

Open seats in Moore include four-year terms in each of the three districts. Lexington positions are open in Wards 3 and 4, both four-year terms, and Slaughterville will fill positions of town treasurer, a four-year term, two four-year trustee positions and two unexpired two-year trustee positions.

Candidates filing for office will be required to complete a Declaration of Candidacy form available for download on the Cleveland County Election Board website, www.clevelandcountyelectionboard.com. Forms also are available at the Election Board office.

The form must be notarized. The Election Board cannot notarize candidate filing papers. Because Municipal Elections are non-partisan, when completing the Declaration of Candidacy form, all candidates should leave political party blank.

The city of Moore election will be March 5, with a runoff on April 2 if needed. Lexington and Slaughterville elections will be April 2.
