Students traveled around the world at the first-ever TCHE Geography Fair Thursday at Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
Five high school students volunteered to act as tour guides for the expedition and stamps and stickers were collected along the way to fill the TCHE passport.
Students presented information about 28 countries spanning all seven continents. The first two hours of the fair were reserved for the participants to travel to the various countries presented.
Each participant brought a sample food item. Many also dressed in traditional clothing from their country and brought toys, clothes, books, money and perfume.
About 50 children participated in the fair and about 175 people attended the event.
Truman
Superintendent Joe Siano recently visited the PTA meeting at Truman to present a PowerPoint on the upcoming Norman bond issue.
Norman Mayor Cindy Rosenthal recently visited Sue Madole's second grade class to discuss the importance of recycling. Students asked questions about the recycling program in Norman.
The fifth grade student council members are elected by peers and teachers to assist with school activities, serve as good role models for the school and assist with various leadership duties during the school year. Members during September were: Brock Wright, Lily Thompson, Shaina Patel, Hunter Hull, Sara Bailey, Reece Gao, Grant Voss, Davis Byers, Jack Ross and Sabrina Hubbard; October: Kiera Green, Nathan Wesson, Chris Corbly, Maddie Higdon, Collin Klein, Shelby Rees, Kealin Bruner, John Stacy, Jenna Howery and Grayson Mask; and November: Chloe Jackson, Colin Leonard, Taylor Landreth, Gabriella Perry, Caslyn Toma, Stephen Jackson, Scott Wilson, Angela Zhu, Zack Fick and Claire Liu.
Kennedy
Ms. Brinker's first grade class helped save some turkeys for Thanksgiving by dressing them up so they were incognito to hungry people. First-graders, along with the fifth grade classes, wrote cards for veterans thanking them for their service to our country.
Mrs. Beatty's second grade class worked hard to get ready for their Thanksgiving Reader's Theater 1:30 p.m. Monday in the library.
Fifth grade teacher and step team coach Mrs. Ashley welcomes the following students to the step team: Third-graders: Samantha Cooper, Keith Ellis, Megan Mohr, Mackenzie Pickett and Livie Sandlin; fourth-graders: Miah Drew, Sydnee Lyons, Armyiah Rayford, Briana Streu and Brayden Williams; and fifth-graders: Cheyenne Bettelyoun, McKenzi Clark, Brenna Isbill, Tiffany Jordan, Euriah Morris and Alaysha Young.
Julie Carroll and Sara Raney from the Norman Alcohol and Information Center trained 20 peer mediators for skills in reflective listening, the importance of non-verbal language and how to ask encouraging, open-ended questions.
The first Turkey Trot Run will be Tuesday. Children and staff have been busy buying T-shirts and donating a dollar to run either a half mile or a mile and, if they are in first, second or third place, they win a turkey to take home for Thanksgiving.
