The Assistance League of Norman invites the community to "Believe" as the theme of its annual Holiday Gala.
The event will be 6:30 Saturday in the Grand Ballroom at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, 2501 Conference Drive.
The Gala's schedule includes a silent auction, holiday boutique, dinner and a live auction.
The Gala is ALN's annual fund raiser for its community philanthropic projects, which include:
· Assault survivor kits -- The project, done through the Norman Rape Crisis Center, provides survivors of rape and violent assault with a new sweat suit, flip flops and grooming kit so survivors may leave the center with dignity.
· Bears for Children -- ALN works with 10 local service agencies to provide stuffed teddy bears to children in various crisis situations, from placement in foster care to house fires. Last year, the group donated more than 100 bears to area children.
· Care kits -- The project provides grooming kits to women and children living in the Norman Women's Shelter and cleaning kits and groceries to families who leave the shelter. Also, kits are provided for Norman Public Schools' independent living students.
· Operation School Bell -- The program provides a new coat, new shoes, pants, shirts, socks, underwear, a grooming kit and a new book to children from the Norman and Little Axe school districts. In the past year, ALN helped about 1,200 children with the program.
· Seniors R--R -- ALN members spend one afternoon a month with clients of Full Circle Adult Day Center.
The group also has put on the annual May Fair Arts Festival the first weekend of May for the previous 35 years.
