Cleveland

Third-graders will present "December around the World" 1:45 and 7 p.m. Tuesday. Third grade students need to be back at school by 6:40 p.m. on that day.

Second-graders will travel to the Sooner Theatre Thursday to see the musical "Annie." The cost?for the musical is $5 and money needs to be turned in to your child's teacher. Good luck to cast members Kyla Clemons, speech teacher, fifth-grader Miranda Poteet, second-grader Addison Baker and former cub and sixth-grader Gracie Koonce.?

Students are checking out lots of books and returning Super Reader lists.?Mrs. Gore's class?was the "Dragon Headed Leader" for September and October.?Her class has?returned the most Super Reading lists.

Pre-k and kindergarten students have been learning about library manners, book care and how to?check out books.

In making a connection to the first grade farm unit in October, students listened to farm stories, "The Enormous Potato" and "The Enormous Turnip." Then?they retold the?story by acting?it out.

Second-graders have been learning about picking "A Just Right Book" and listening to the reading of "Goldisocks and the Three Libearians."?

Through November students learned how books are arranged in the library.?In December they will be?introduced to author/ illustrator David Wiesner and?the Caldecott award. Students will learn about Melvil Dewey and celebrate his birthday.

Third-graders?learned how to use the online catalog to search for books. In December, third-graders?will complete?a Christmas custom research project.

Fourth-graders?reviewed various reference sources through the use of the Smart Board and?scavenger hunts. They?completed a president research project in November. In December they?will be?introduced to Melvil Dewey to celebrate his birthday.

Using the Smart Board, fifth-graders have reviewed the use of encyclopedias. They?did an encyclopedia scavenger hunt?and researched Explorers?for a ?project in October. Throughout November, December, January and February fifth-graders will read Caldecott award books and create a bibliography.?In December and January they will learn where poetry is located in the library, discuss different types of poetry, and look at figures of speech.

In November, the library also hosted author/ illustrator Kim Doner.

Jefferson

The holiday store opens Monday. This is were students may purchase items during their designated times, and the items will be delivered to classrooms at the end of the day.

Thursday, the Jefferson Jazzers Choir will have its annual performance. They will perform at 1:45 and 7 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to attend both performances.

Lincoln

Entertainment for the annual?International Food Fest and Silent Auction was provided by the kindergarten, second and fourth grades, who performed a variety of multicultural dances and songs.??

Lincoln's 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year is Debbi Grensky, first grade teacher.

Santa?was at Lincoln Dec 2.?Every student?had the opportunity to visit with him.??

Third-graders will have their "Celebration Around the World" program 6:30 p.m. Dec. 16.The choir?will perform?their "Winter Songfest" 1:40 p.m. Dec. 19 in the gym. Classroom parties will take place 2 p.m. Dec. 19.

Kennedy

Mrs. Ashley will take Kennedy's step team to Norman's Christmas parade to perform along with a partner-in-education, Republic Bank.

Kennedy celebrated the upcoming holidays with a Holiday Art Night. Each grade level came up with a different activity.

Monroe

Manyawi (Monroe's worldwide ensemble) will perfor for the tree lighting ceremony at the State Capitol 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Manyawi's winter informance will be 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at Monroe.

The PTA will host the annual Holiday Market Monday and Tuesday. Students will be allowed to shop for family and friends. More details can be found in Thursday Folders. Volunteers are needed.

Thursday, the cafeteria will be serving a holiday ham dinner. Guests are invited to eat with the students and are encouraged to bring small bills to pay for their $2.70 meal. Guests should RSVP for the holiday meal at 366-5927.

Monroe's Family Movie Night will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the gym.

Friday, the PTA will sell popcorn and Girls Scout Troop 248 will sell hot chocolate. The cost of each item is .25 cents.

The PTA also will have a meeting noon Friday in Mrs. Scarberrry's room.

Third grade classes will build gingerbread houses 9 a.m. Dec. 12.

Eisenhower

Students and teachers decorated ornaments for the Embassy Suites Hotel.?In return for the ornaments the hotel will donate $2 per ornament to Toys 4 Tots. Lily Campbell, kindergarten; Wyatt Sullivan, first grade; Garrison Caruso, second grade; Katie Mizell, third grade; Ruby Wise, fourth grade and Julie Johnston, fifth grade put ornaments on the tree and had their picture taken.

Kindergarters are finishing up a unit on Artic animals. The kindergarten classes will learn about Christmas and gingerbread men/women.

Second-graders are working on ballpark estimates, explorations, polygons, parallel line segments, symmetry and three-dimensional shapes?during everyday math.

Third-graders are beginning their study of Christmas traditions around the world. Mrs. Cagle's class is focusing on Japan, Ms. Darling's class, Italy; Ms. Swartz's class, France; and Mrs. Thompson's class, Mexico. They will research their country, making ornaments for the tree and learning some of the special holiday traditions along with customs from that country.

Fourth-graders have just finished their fifth math unit in everyday math.?Fourth-graders now can multiply double and triple digit numbers using partial products or lattice. Students also are finihsing a study of the southeast region and will begin studying the midwest in January.

Truman

The kindergarten classes are sending care packages and making?cards for troops as part of a special service learning project.?

The fifth grade safety patrol students this nine weeks are: Domminic Selman, Jordan Shafer, Phoenix Tyler, Maycee Norvell, Alejandro DeLoera, Mikel Carpenter, Jacob Welcher, Cole West and William Astani.

During the Share Your Shelf campagin, Truman collected more than 1,600 cans for the Norman Christmas Store.

Artist Doug Elder visted Sue Madole's second grade class.?He instructed students in making sculptures. They are on display in the media center.

John Brooks (the voice of OU basketball, football and Blazer's hockey) recently visited.?He has written "Bobby Bright's Greatest Christmas Ever" which he discussed and read a chapter from.
