Eisenhower Elementary welcomes new staff members for the 2008-2009 school year: Susan Powell, Connie Doss, Tremanye Phillips, Renee Rule, Lindsay Hawkins, Andrea Poole, Kim Frakes, Maggie Muir, Courtney DeTrinidad and Michelle Horton.?The second grade team welcomes Angie Estes, Mrs. Ford's student intern.?She will be working with second grade for the fall semester.
Monroe
Monroe Elementary is excited to welcome new staff members: Lindsay Berryhill, KDG teacher; Heather Pogue, KDG teacher; Britney Warden, KDG teacher; Melissa Hoehler, fourth grade teacher; Luci Loafman, ELL teacher; Tabitha Baughman, resource teaching assistant; Michelle Beasley, resource teaching assistant; Amanda Hawkins, resource teaching assistant and Laportia Adedokun, resource teaching assistant.
Familiar faces with different roles include Miss Daily who is now Mrs. Costa (teaching third grade) and Chris Robbins, morning library assistant, helping with pre-k in the afternoon.
Monroe received a facelift this summer with a fresh coat of paint as well as a new marquee. Many thanks to the students, PTA and donors who made the marquee possible. A special thanks to those who came out to the "Meet and Greet -- Make it Neat" Saturday morning and washed windows, planted flowers, trimmed bushes and much more.
Monday there will be no school because of Labor Day.
Bring your grandparents to school Friday morning in honor of Grandparents Day. Mrs. Branch will host a principal's coffee for the visiting relatives.
Those who would like to volunteer in any capacity call PTA President Angie Hockett or the school office.
Kennedy
Kennedy Elementary wants to thank its Partners-in-Education, Arvest Bank, BancFirst and Republic Bank and Trust for purchasing Thursday folders for all the students. Kennedy also want to thank the generosity of Northeast Baptist Church for fulfilling teacher's wish lists and to Kennedy's Watch D.O.G.S. for greeting students and helping them into a smooth transition into the school year.
Cleveland
School is off and running.?Thanks to all the parents, students and staff for all you did to help make the start of school fantastic.
Parents remember that the numbered parking spaces at Cleveland are for teachers and staff.?Norman parking enforcement has been ticketing cars in the oval. Cleveland doesn't want anyone coming out to a "pink" surprise. Be mindful and park in the visitor spots.?
Second- and fourth-graders will be taking the Cogat test Wednesday and Thursday.?Make up test will be given Friday.?Make sure your child eats a good breakfast and gets a good night of sleep. The Cognitive Abilities Test? is to assess students' abilities in reasoning and problem solving using verbal, quantitative and nonverbal (spatial) symbols.?It allow teachers to see students' different abilities.

Parents of first-graders will want to?attend the first grade parent meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Camp Goddard is here. Fifth grade students will go camping Wednesday through Friday.?The overnight camp is held at Camp Goddard in Davis.?Students will learn about science and nature.?This also is a great way for fifth-graders to learn leadership skills that they will use throughout the year as leaders of Cleveland Elementary.?If you have any questions about camp, contact a fifth grade teacher.
Students also have been given Jog-A-Thon forms.?The theme is Olympics, in honor of our own Olympian Jonathan Horton who was a silver and bronze medal winner in Beijing, China. The Jog-A-Thon will be Sept. 26.
