Puppeteer coming to library Sunday

Arkansas puppeteer Tommy Diaz brings his Tommy Terrific's Wacky Magic show to the Norman Public Library 1 p.m. Sunday.

The show is part of the library's series in February honoring Black History Month.

Tommy Diaz grew up in North Little Rock, Ark., and, after graduating from Northwestern University, moved to New York City to pursue an acting career on Broadway.

While in New York, Diaz created Tommy Terrific's Wacky Magic show. He recently returned to Arkansas with his family to raise his son in a more family-friendly environment.

'Extreme' food drive continues toward 23,000-pound goal

With the Extreme Makeover Home Edition house well underway in Slaughterville, Ideal Homes still is seeking help from the community with the show's food drive challenge.

The group's goal is to collect 23,000 pounds of food during the drive, which runs through Sunday.

A complete list of locations to donate, which includes several dozen in Norman, is available online at www.idealextremehome.com.

The Web site also features daily updates and photographs of the progress the design team and volunteers are making on the house, which is due to be completed by Sunday.



Adoption Seminar planned

Dillon International, Inc., will host a comprehensive class addressing the needs and adjustments of newly adopted children and their adoptive families. The workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 6 at Trinity Baptist Church, 801 N. Peters Ave.

Dillon International staff will present information and answer questions concerning the care of children who have joined the family through international adoption.

Participants will have the opportunity hear from adoptive families and explore topics including attachment, grief and loss, the impact of institutionalization on child development, becoming a multiracial family, keeping children connected to their heritage and talking to their child about adoption.

The fee for the class -- which includes lunch and materials -- is $145 per couple or $110 per single adult, and counts for six certified Hague Adoption Education hours. Couples and individuals interested in attending this workshop should call 329-0531 for information and registration.
