NORMAN — Forget your diet. Dust off your boots. Gear up for the carnival. And, most importantly, have a good time.
And why shouldn’t you do all of these things? It’s Cleveland County Free Fair time. It only comes once a year and the fair is quite possibly the crowning jewel of summer. This year’s fair will start Thursday and continue until Saturday. Entries will be taken 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The fair officially kicks off Thursday with the 10th annual Gospel Night, goat roping at 5 p.m. for the kids, petting zoo opens at 3 p.m. and the carnival and midway opens at 7 p.m.
Wrist bands will be featured at the carnival Thursday and Friday, allowing all to pay one price to ride all rides from 7 to 11 both nights.
In it’s 103 year, the fair will offer goat roping, carnival rides, live entertainment, kiddie pedal pulls, a petting zoo, the annual Celebrity Cow Milking Contest, 4-H, FFA and OHCE exhibits, the Best of Show contest and a whole lot more.
Highlights of this year’s fair include the Oklahoma State Pedal Pull Championship 11 a.m. Saturday. The contest winners will compete for the State championship title.
Entertainment for this year’s will be Banana Seat, Justin Fox Band, Greystone Bluegrass Revival, Stones Throw Band, Miss Oklahoma Emoly West, Tropical Illusions Magic Show, Owen Pickard and Kelsie Wolf, Jaci Lane Dietrick and many other acts.
Parking and admission will be free at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 615 E. Robinson.
