NORMAN — Maj. Andrew Ballenger, Norman, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in a ceremony at the University of Oklahoma’s ROTC armory last week.
Ballenger was pinned to his new rank by his wife, Bridget, and daughter, Madison,15. Also in attendance were Ballenger’s sons, Samuel, 9, and Asa, 12.
Ballenger serves as the commander of the Oklahoma Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in Stillwater.
He received his commission in the OU ROTC armory in May 1995 and served in the active Army before joining the Oklahoma Army National Guard 11 years ago.
Since joining the Oklahoma National Guard, Ballenger has deployed three times.
He first deployed to Afghanistan for a year in 2003-2004, then deployed to Iraq in 2007-08 and finally, he deployed to Iraq/Kuwait in 2011-2012.
All of his deployments have been with subordinate units of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Ballenger is the son of Nina Flannery of Norman.
