Library system to launch Food for Fines campaign

NORMAN — The Pioneer Library System will launch its annual Food for Fines campaign a little earlier this year, with collections being taken from Tuesday to Nov. 21 at each of its 10 branch libraries.

During Food for Fines, cardholders may bring one can, box or bag of non-expired, non-perishable, unopened and undamaged food which may be exchanged for $1 credit each on fines, up to a maximum waiver of $20 off an account.

However, donations do not count toward lost item charges or fees associated with debt collection.

This year’s program dates are a little earlier in the season than in the past, when donations frequently were taken the week after Thanksgiving.

Many organizations benefiting from the donations indicated that they could do more with them around the holidays if they received the food a little sooner, so the program was moved forward.

Last year’s collection totaled more than 3.3 tons of items that benefited local organizations in communities throughout the Pioneer Library System.

For more information on the program, call any PLS library branch or go online to www.justsoyouknow.us.
