Riverwind Casino event to raise funds for Susan G. Komen

NORMAN — The world’s best professional billiards players and local celebrities will go head-to-head during the Women’s Professional Billiard Association Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament 7 tonight at Riverwind Casino. In conjunction with the WPBA U.S. Open from today through Aug. 1, the annual Pro-Am tournament and fundraiser will raise money for the Central Oklahoma Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“We are honored again to host an event that has proven to be fun for the players and celebrities as well as the spectators,” said Angel Green, Riverwind marketing manager. “While the level of competition may not be as high as it is during actual U.S. Open play, no one seems to mind. This night is all about coming together in support of our local Susan G. Komen chapter, helping to impact positively an organization that contributes a great deal to the fight against breast cancer.”

Marking the first day of competition for the WPBA U.S. Open tournament, the evening’s WPBA players include Striking Viking, Texas Tornado, Kwikfire, Little Devil Girl and Allison Fisher. Celebrity players include: U.S. Olympic champion Bart Conner; Heisman Trophy winners Billy Sims, Jason White and Steve Owens; Oklahoma City Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison and television play-by-play announcer Brian Davis; NewsChannel 4 anchor Lance West; News 9 reporters Jacqueline Sit, Jennifer Pierce and Adrianna Iwasinski; and KYIS 98.9 FM radio personalities Jack Elliott and Ron Williams. After the Pro-Am tournament, attendees and fans can purchase their chance to play against actual WPBA players.

“We appreciate greatly everything the staff at Riverwind Casino does to make this event successful,” said Lorna Palmer, executive director of the Central Oklahoma Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “From the casino staff to the tournament players, it truly is inspiring to know this event brings together people from many different organizations, all with the purpose of finding a cure for cancer.”

The annual Pro-Am tournament will take place inside Riverwind Casino’s Showplace Theatre. Tickets to the Pro-Am tournament are $25 each, with all proceeds going to the Central Oklahoma Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Pro-Am tournament and other WPBA U.S. Open activities inside the Showplace Theatre at Riverwind are open to the public with no age limit; however, patrons must be 18 to enter the casino.

Riverwind is at the intersection of Interstate 35 and West Highway 9.
