Midway Grocery to host annual jam session Sunday

On a regular Sunday afternoon, the open sign would be glowing and customers would be filing through Bob Thompson's Midway Grocery and Deli.

But this Sunday, like he does once a year, he's shutting the door and cutting the lights.

Sunday, the store will host its 13th annual Midway Jam on the corner of Chautauqua Avenue and Eufaula Street noon to 9 p.m.

"This isn't for any great cause. It's just neighborhood fun, like a giant block party," said Thompson, who began the jam session to feature local talent.

Thompson plans to offer an extensive lineup from bluegrass and rockabilly to jazz fusion, enough to keep the music rolling until the sun dips down.

Come anytime he said, but fans of Bob French and Friends, a growing favorite, should come early.

Because musicians volunteer their time, admission is free. Guests are invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets.

Hot dogs, sausages and beverages will be sold to help offset the cost of the event, but outside refreshments are welcome, too.
