Dreamer Concepts Studio -- Foundation (DCSF), at 324 East Main St., is hosting the opening reception for Dreamer 9 titled "Migrations...the Origami Experience" Saturday, March 29. The?featured artists include Mariah Johnson, painter and screen printer, Klint Schor, sculptor and designer, and Jerrod Smith, painter and mold-maker.
This exhibition examines the way local artists have adapted the ancient, non-western artistic tradition of Origami to communicate a broad range of issues such as psychological and emotional journey, cultural division, and environmental sustainability.
In addition, Norman High School's students have participated in the exhibit's theme. Mr. Flores's College Prep English I creative writing students and Ms. Rice's 3D -- Intro 2 Visual Arts students have contributed over 400 individual Origami pieces, which incorporate original poetry and recycled materials.
The majority of the Origami included in the show has been created from recycled materials in order to promote awareness for issues surrounding environmental sustainability. The show coincides with the Oklahoma Sustainability Network's annual conference and hOUR Norman, an initiative aimed at promoting energy conservation within the local community. In conjunction with hOUR Norman, energy-efficient CFL bulbs will be distributed at the exhibition opening.
Thomas Anderson of McMichael Music Studios will be performing a selection of classical guitar pieces that evening.
McMichael Music Studios has generously donated a J. Reynolds "strat style" two-tone burst electric guitar, which will be raffled at the close of the business day on Saturday, May 3. Raffle tickets may be purchased for $5 at the gallery from March 29 through May 3.
Dreamer Concepts Studio and Foundation would like to give a special thanks to Dreamer 9's exhibition sponsors: McMichael Studios, Republic Bank and Trust, Native Roots Market, and Coach's Brewhouse.
Dreamer 9 will be open to the public from 7-10 on the evening of March 29. The exhibit will run until Saturday, April 26. For more information or questions concerning the event, please contact DCSF at info@dreamerconcepts.org or 701-0048 or visit our Web site, www.dreamerconcepts.org.
