NORMAN — If peach cobbler and melting vanilla ice cream sang as sweet as it tastes, that harmonious blend would describe the sensuous sound of country rock band The Iveys.
A family that plays together stays together — literally. Having grown up on their dad’s old classic rock records deep in the heart of West Texas, three barefooted siblings, Arlen, Jessica and Jillian Ivey, built their band on deep country roots with rock ’n’ roll flavor and a youthful Indie touch. Jethro Gaglione on lead guitar, Frank Delgado on drums and Eli Chanson on bass complete the group.
“We have a great connection on stage because of the fact that we're related,” Jillian Ivey said.
No sibling rivalry here. The Iveys base their music on harmony, blending serene croons that float through an audience atmosphere.
Light but deep, their lyrics coat love, life and loss with a breath of fresh, country-infused melody.
“It's energetic,” Arlen, the groups’ only brother, said about their music. “But we can still slow it down with a ballad or a song acapella.”
From Train and Bruce Springsteen to The Wallflowers, The Fray and The Goo Goo Dolls, The Iveys’ time-honored influences give their sound a dreamy, nostalgic feel for any first-time listener.
After a great first experience playing in Norman, The Iveys can’t wait to return. “We love playing in Oklahoma,” Jessica said.
The Iveys play 9 p.m. Saturday at The Brewhouse in Norman. Admission is $5.
The Brewhouse is at 110 W. Main in Norman.
