Visitors speak about community

NORMAN — Students at All Saints school recognizing national week

All Saints Catholic School hosted a number of guest speakers Tuesday who spoke about community and social responsibility as part of National Catholic Schools Week activities. The Catholic Social Teachings has been the theme for this year’s NCSW.

Each day, guest speakers have focused on a different social teaching. Speakers at All Saints included Judge William Hetherington, State Sen. Rob Standridge, Fr. Jim Chamberlain of the WaTER (Water Technology for Emerging Regions) Center at OU, Deacon Larry Sousa with the Norman Fire Department and Jimmie Cortez of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Catholic Schools Week continues through Sunday. Students will spend the week collecting soup cans for the Norman Food Pantry as part of the “Souper Saints” project, collecting socks for Sr. B.J.’s Pantry, Birth Choice and Operation School Bell at Friday’s “Sock Hop” and a mass collection for the Center of Family Love in Okarche.

The week will conclude with a community-wide open house at the school from 1 to 3 p.m.
