Norman Public Schools names teacher of the year finalists

Norman — Six Norman teachers have advanced to the finalist round for the district’s 2010 Teacher of the Year.

The winner will be announced April 20 at the district’s Celebration of Excellence banquet.

Teachers selected for the honor include: Julie Bonner, Norman High School; Hollis Clarke, Whittier Middle School; Johnnie Keel, Truman Elementary School; Janet Lassiter, Madison Elementary School; Jeremy Walker, Norman North High School; and Ann Ward, McKinley Elementary School.

The finalists, selected by the school district’s staff development committee, are now in the process of compiling a portfolio, filming a video of their classroom instruction and preparing for a final 45-minute interview with the Staff Development Committee.

“We are certainly proud of these teachers. They are very much representative of the quality of teachers we have in the Norman Public Schools,” said Superintendent Joe Siano.
