Eighth-grade NPS musicians to perform

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Norman Public Schools will present its 8th Grade Orchestra Festival at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Nancy O’Brian Center for the performing arts.

The concert will showcase about 110 eighth-grade orchestra students from all four Norman middle schools — Alcott, Irving, Longfellow and Whittier.

The concert is open to the public, with no admission charge.

The concert will feature a variety of music including “Bran Castle” by William Owens, “Las Cruces” by Daniel Lonie and “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Edmund Siennicki.

The concert will end with a performance of “Jupiter from the Planets” by Gustav Holst, arranged by Deborah Baker Monday.

Scott Jackson will serve as guest conductor for the concert.  

Jackson is director of the Stillwater Public Schools Orchestra Program. He regularly serves as a faculty member for music camps including the University of Central Oklahoma, The Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony and the University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp.  

He has also served as a guest conductor and/or clinician for regional honor orchestras.
