Education leader to speak Tuesday

NORMAN — Michael Fullan, a leader in teacher education, will speak 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Oklahoma at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, 2401 Chautauqua Ave.

Fullan’s visit is part of the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education’s inaugural Cathey Simmons Humphreys Distinguished Education Lecture Series. He is scheduled to speak in the museum’s Robert S. Kerr Auditorium.

Recognized as a worldwide leader on education reform, Fullan advises leaders and policymakers on improving education systems, which in turn improves the capacity to learn for all children. Fullan currently serves as a special adviser to the premier and minister of Education in Ontario, Canada.

“We are so honored to have Dr. Fullan speak at our inaugural Cathey Simmons Humphreys Distinguished Education Lecture Series,” Dean Gregg Garn said. “Dr. Fullan’s vision of change in education is a very relevant and timely message.”

Fullan is a professor emeritus of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. He is the author of several books, including “Leading in a Culture of Change” and “Turnaround Leadership in Higher Education.” His most recent works include “Professional Capital of Teachers and Stratosphere: Integrating Technology, Pedagogy and Change Knowledge.”
