Board president bids farewell

NORMAN — Moore Norman Technology Center’s Board of Education bid a fond farewell to outgoing president Doris Wedge at a regular meeting Thursday evening in Norman.

Appointed to the board in 2007, Wedge served as an MNTC administrator for 30 years. She represented zone 3, Office 3, including some of Norman.

“It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’m proud of everything Moore/Norman has been and will continue to be,” Wedge said, after accepting a commemorative clock in recognition of her service.

“Doris is a very special person to have had here and we will miss her so very much,” Superintendent Jane Bowen said.

Also honored at Thursday’s meeting was the digital video production class, whose sideline camera work for Moore high school football games included weekly athlete profiles (broadcast prior to the game), which Moore Public Schools Athletic Director Carl Franks called a “great opportunity.”

“I know that each of our athletes are so grateful for that opportunity to be broadcast on a big screen for all their friends and the school before a football game. Not many other athletes in the state can say they’ve had that opportunity,” Franks said.

Franks personally presented DVP students present at the meeting with a certificate of thanks on behalf of Moore Public Schools.

MNTC’s HIRE program was recognized for celebrating its 20th anniversary, as was facilities Director Jerry McConnell for his appointment to the Governor’s Council for School Violence.

The next meeting of the MNTC Board of Education will be on the MNTC South Penn campus, 13301 S. Penn Ave. in Oklahoma City.
