Stand up against bullying

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — A task force made up of school officials, police, church leaders and other community stakeholders has been quietly working on Norman’s anti-bullying legislation. A community event is planned later this year.

Bullying, whether it is on the playground or in the workplace, has become a hot topic in recent months. Sadly, it has taken the suicides of young persons who were victims of bullying to bring it to the attention of more communities.

The first step was a routine city council resolution declaring October as National Bullying Prevention Month in Norman. It passed 8-1, with Ward 5 council member Dave Spaulding voting no.

We look forward to the community discussion. It is not solely the responsibility of schools and police to take the lead here. We all have a stake in the outcome.
