Norman — Norman faces a number of big-ticket expenditures and policy decisions over the next few years. City council members will make a number of important, long-term decisions regarding Norman’s future.
We have reviewed the candidates running for Wards 4, 6 and 8 and believe the incumbents — Carol Dillingham, James Griffith and Dan Quinn — are the best qualified to hold the council seats. Ward 2’s Tom Kovach did not drawn an opponent in the race. In the mayor’s race, we have chosen not to make an editorial endorsement.
The other five candidates have run good races and mostly stuck to the issues. We applaud their willingness to serve at a time when civic engagement doesn’t seem to be a popular or expected activity.
Ms. Dillingham, an attorney with a deep interest in protecting neighborhoods, seems to have a good grasp of the issues facing Norman. Her Ward 4 has a good mix of older homes and small businesses and student housing.
In Ward 6, Dr. Griffith has earned another term. Our views differ on the stormwater and speed hump questions but he seems to have a good grasp and vision on Norman’s future.
In Ward 8, longtime educator turned Realtor Dan Quinn is our choice for the northwest Norman district. He brings a solid understanding of the education, social service and business communities.
