No Shave November a hit

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — The United Way of Norman wraps up its annual fund drive this week. But the organization may have stumbled — or shall we say stubbled — on a great way to raise donations and spread the word about.

“No Shave November” this year included 101 local men who decided to give up their razors for a cause. This year’s efforts raised $66,748 as of Tuesday morning.

That’s quite the cash stash. Last year, about 40 men joined the cause and raised about $17,000, not shabby for a first-time fund stunt. This year, the top fundraiser Sheriff Joe Lester raised nearly that much on his own.

The victory luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center. We’re betting there will be some volunteers there to show off their smooth faces.
