Holiday lights of awareness

NORMAN — We’ve noticed more special-colored Christmas lights on area homes and businesses this year. Most are to promote awareness of life-changing diseases. Others are for team spirit or are just a favorite color.

An Oklahoma company, The Team Outdoor Lifestyle, has shared what the various colors mean. The company partnered with an Edmond hospital to create a 42-tree, 300-strand lights of awareness display. The display at Integris Health Edmond includes more than 21,000 lights in nine different colors:

Red, AIDS; pink, breast cancer; white, lung cancer; light blue, prostate cancer; royal blue, colon cancer; green, kidney cancer; yellow, bladder cancer; orange, leukemia; and purple, general cancer awareness.
