Powerful United Way team

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Pardon the pun, but we think James Chappel and John Koons will make a “powerful” team as co-chairs of the 2013 United Way campaign.

The two OG&E executives agreed this month to take charge of the campaign, which will likely raise about $2 million for social and human service agencies and programs in Norman. Both have been involved in campaigns for many years.

“I really like contributing to an agency that helps other agencies ...” Chappel told The Transcript. “One person can’t volunteer for all the needs we have, but United Way can use your personal contribution to aid a lot of different things.”

The annual campaign picks up steam every fall with the Pacesetters Division, but planning is year-round. Companies identify key executives to lead drives, the university identifies its campaign operatives, and the Day of Caring and kickoff day are scheduled.

We congratulate Mr. Koons and Mr. Chappel on accepting the challenge and look forward to an uplifting campaign season.
