There was no crash

NORMAN — Newsroom callers thought there had to have been a bad accident on the Canadian River bridge Friday night. The traffic backed up along southbound Interstate 35 nearly to Moore.

Get ready for more of the same as crews work to widen the bridge. The southbound outside lane was closed this past week and drivers entering from Lindsey or SH 9 were slowed as traffic was squeezed into two lanes.

It didn’t help that it was the first night of Spring Break and many drivers were headed south.

Beginning today, the northbound outside lane will be closed leaving two lanes open. The $16 million project is targeted for completion by September but the contractor has a financial incentive to finish the job early. It could come as early as June.
