Weather may affect election

NORMAN — A chance of snow for Norman on Tuesday may affect voter turnout for Cleveland County school elections.

The county will most likely have a mixture of rain and snow beginning Monday night or Tuesday morning, said Wayne Ruff, National Weather Service meteorologist.

Ruff said the area will probably see about an inch of snow by the end of the day Tuesday.

“It looks like we have snow likely in the afternoon (Tuesday) especially,” he said.

Cleveland County Election Board Secretary Jim Williams said while the bad weather may affect voter turnout, the election will take place.

“Typically, experience has shown that bad weather does affect the voter turnout,” Williams said. “Bad weather or not, the election and the filing period (for Noble municipal officers) will go on as scheduled.”

Williams said the election board will work with county commissioners Monday to plan for generators, if necessary.

The winter weather is not expected to last long. After Tuesday, Ruff said it will warm up fairly quickly into the 50s again.

He said no precipitation is expected for the rest of the week.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. In-person, absentee voting will continue today at the election board, 641 E. Robinson St.

Information on precincts, ballots and voting locations can be accessed at www.clevelandcountyelectionboard.com or by calling 366-0210.

Election results will be live-streaming Tuesday at www.normantranscript.com.
