Fingerprinting scam occurring in county

NORMAN — Sheriff Joe Lester said Tuesday that a scam is making its way into Cleveland County.

Lester has received reports that someone is making phone calls claiming to be associated with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and attempting to solicit money for child fingerprinting services. The caller has no association with the CCSO.

Lester said the caller requests bank account information and promises to fingerprint children for a charge. The calls began in the county this week.

Lester said deputies will fingerprint kids for free and won’t ever solicit money for services.

“If you have received one of these calls, please call the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “Should someone call, ask for your bank account information and offer child fingerprint services for a fee, hang up the phone and report it to the sheriff’s office immediately.”

If anyone has received one of these calls, report it to the CCSO at 701-8888.
